HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM TWIN METALS MINNESOTA
The holiday season has arrived! From our team here at Twin Metals Minnesota, we send you the happiest of holiday wishes and want to extend our thanks to our community and friends. We could not be more appreciative for the unyielding support throughout the year.
The past year was a test of our team’s perseverance, no doubt, making us ever so proud to stand alongside you, more resilient than ever, to defend all the work we’ve put in thus far, and all that lies ahead in 2024. This time of year is naturally a time of reflection, and we wanted to take a look back at the positive moments we experienced this year:
In April, we were proud to be chosen as a Good Neighbor Business Award recipient by the Ely Chamber of Commerce. To be recognized by our neighbors means a lot to us, but mostly, we want to see the Ely community thrive and we constantly look for ways we can help in a meaningful way.
In late May, the Minnesota DNR issued a determination that the current regulations for nonferrous mining projects are adequate to protect water and air resources in the Rainy River Watershed. This announcement came in response to a lawsuit brought in 2020 against DNR challenging the adequacy of the rules. Twin Metals will be participating in a contested case process with the DNR and the plaintiffs soon, which will include a review of several of the agency’s findings on water, air, noise and light regulations.
In July, we were excited to share a third-party life cycle assessment report on the Twin Metals project, conducted by Minviro ltd. The report found that the carbon impact of our copper and nickel concentrates will be 70 and 80 percent lower than the global average respectively, due in large part to our plans to use renewable energy, incorporate an electric fleet and employ additional efficiency measures. You can read the full report here.
In October, we were pleased the Minnesota DNR authorized our exploration plan that we submitted in late August. This exploration will help us better understand our mineral resources and our potential to contribute critical minerals to support Minnesota and our nation in the transition to a clean energy future. Read more about our exploration plan here.
November signified the filing of our notice of appeal in the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit following September’s dismissal of its lawsuit by a U.S. District Court Judge. With this, Twin Metals continues to defend its long-held mineral leases in northeast Minnesota from unlawful federal agency action.
Looking forward, we are eager to carry out our exploration program this winter in a safe and responsible manner. We have an ongoing commitment to gaining additional knowledge and data about our mineral resources, more now than ever, as the demand for materials continues to increase exponentially. We’ll share more about that work in the coming months.
We remain steadfast in our work of sustainably developing our copper, nickel, cobalt, and platinum group metals resources, knowing how critical these materials are for a greener future. As always, we will carry our commitment of bringing jobs to and investing in the communities of northeast Minnesota into the new year, helping to achieve the carbon-free goals set by our state and federal leaders.
We wish you a warm holiday season full of rest and time with your loved ones. From our team to you, happy holidays!
Cheers,
The Twin Metals Minnesota Team
